Lectures and Case Studies presented at IPSOIL II

Within a multi-functional planning process of soil and land use we were recognising at the IP in March, that most of the presentations were dealing with primary and secondary responses towards satisfying the demand for improving new socio-political instruments or economic regulations, technical precautionary measures, legal decrees, ecological and also aesthetic structures. Multi-functionality of the land means to substitute the zoning principle of the physical separation of urban and rural activities with a true mix of patterns, which functions to benefit life in all its forms. Multifunc-tionality of soil means that soil can be used in all its main functions, such as biomass production, filtering, buffering and transformation, as a gene reserve and as a geogenic and cultural heritage and also as a physical basis.
